MONTREAT, NC — The Mountain Retreat Association, Inc. (MRA) is excited to announce the Rev. Dr. Marti Reed Hazelrigg as its next vice president of development.
“Marti brings exactly the kind of energy and enthusiasm that Montreat needs in this moment,” says MRA President Richard DuBose. “Her deep love for Montreat and the church, her proven leadership experience, and her engaging presence make her an ideal fit for this role and a tremendous addition to our senior leadership team. We are thrilled to welcome Marti as our new vice president of development.”
As a member of the senior leadership team, Marti will lead fundraising and development efforts through the Montreat Fund, church and foundation support, donor and volunteer stewardship, individual major gifts, and legacy giving.
Since 2014, Marti has served as pastor at Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge, NC. She has served churches in North Carolina and in New Jersey at Nassau Presbyterian Church throughout twenty-four years of ordained ministry. Marti holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in youth ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Duke Divinity School. She is a member of the Board of Trustees at Princeton Theological Seminary, as well as the Alumni Council.
Marti is no stranger to Montreat, having led groups to Montreat Youth Conferences since 1993. Since that trip, she has also served in other capacities, including as a Small Group leader, Planning Team member, and conference co-director.
Her spouse, Peter Hazelrigg, is the senior partner and co-founder of Pilgrimage Professional Development Group LLC, working with leaders as a coach, facilitator, and consultant. Peter and Marti are parents to twins, Jackson and Maggie, who are graduating from high school in June of 2026. As a family, Montreat holds a special place in their hearts. Their children have grown up in the summer Clubs recreation program, and the family became cottagers in 2022, and they love to gather in Montreat for holidays and the summer. In her spare time, Marti enjoys exercising, reading, listening to podcasts, and cheering on her favorite sports teams.
“Montreat has been, for me, a place of connection, renewal, and rest for thirty years. It’s where we go to gather with good friends, hike in the beauty of creation, and is often where God is revealed. The generosity of MRA donors has transformed my life in many ways. I am thrilled by the opportunity to serve as the new vice president of development, to connect with people, and to share the impact your giving makes possible.”
Marti will officially begin work in her capacity in January of 2026.
